The Event

In January 2009 I will start my journey from South Africa to Scotland.

My mode of transport will be motorbike with no support vehicles (or film crews).

My first thought was to ride from Scotland to The Cape, but this is a well worn route for adventure motorcyclists travelling from Europe, so I decided to be different.

I am taking a route that is less travelled by Europeans, going from South to North.

From Cape Agulhas the most southerly point of Africa,I intend to follow the more challenging western side of Africa up to Morocco or Algeria, through Europe, and back home to Scotland.

I have planned 120 days to make the trip back to Scotland. Although this sounds like plenty of time, the ever changing weather, political and road conditions mean I have to be as flexible as possible.

To give more meaning to my adventure I will also be trying to raise some money for two charities: Riders For Health and Scottish International Relief. Both are working to make a huge difference throughout the African continent.

Update July 2008

Unfortunately, Tom will no longer be able to take part in this adventure due to circumstances beyond his control.

Update September 2008: I am now joined on this trip by Kevin Avery.

Update October 2008:

Unfortunately Kevin has had to pull out of this trip for personal reasons, so I am on my own again. There is however the possibilty of meeting up with other travellers in South Africa.
